11 Mar Lightsource BP to supply solar energy to 88 service stations in Australia
Lightsource BP has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with electricity company Snowy Hydro that will see it supply renewable energy to 88 BP service stations across the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).
The clean power will be derived from a 107MW solar farm in West Wyalong, NSW, which is currently seeking construction financing. Snowy Hydro will purchase electricity generated from the farm through a 15-year agreement PPA.
The energy retailer will supply BP’s service stations with 23GWh of renewable energy for 10 years to meet their power requirements as part of the deal. The project is scheduled to be completed in January 2023.
Adam Pegg, Lightsource BP’s Australia country manager, said: “Being able to facilitate powering BP’s service stations in NSW with renewable electricity from our West Wyalong solar farm is an achievement which demonstrates our commitment to provide sustainable and affordable energy to our communities.
“We are delighted to be able to leverage our existing relationship with Snowy Hydro on our project in Wellington, to deliver a solution that will contribute to BP’s net zero ambitions.”
