Hive Energy to develop UK’s largest solar farm

Global solar power specialist Hive Energy is planning to build a huge 350MW solar farm in the UK which is set to become the largest solar development in the country.

Stretched across 365 hectares in the Southeast of the UK, the Cleve Hill Solar Park will dwarf the current largest solar farm in terms of size and renewable energy output. The UK’s current biggest solar facility is the 70MW Lyneham array.

The ambitious project will be delivered with no subsidy support from the government (as with any new solar development in the UK) and will be designed with integrated battery storage.

However, due to its unprecedented size Cleve Hill will require approval from the UK’s business development secretary Greg Clarke, and plans remain at an early stage with community consultations to come.

“The Cleve Hill Solar Park is a pioneering scheme that aims to optimise the technological developments in solar energy,” said Hive Energy’s managing director Hugh Brennan.

“Our ambition is to deliver the first non-subsidised renewables project of this scale, delivering low cost, clean, home-grown energy to power UK households.”

Hive Energy has partnered with EPC firm Wirsol to form the SPV Cleve Hill Solar Park Ltd to advance the project.
