06 Jan Merlin Diamonds unearths Australia’s 5th largest diamond
Australia’ fifth-largest diamond has been discovered by Merlin Diamonds (ASX:MED) at its Merlin Diamond project in the Northern Territory.
The 32.56 carat brown diamond was unearthed among a number of rough gems at the namesake mine, still in the ramp up phase, including a 14.6 carat brown jewel as well as several smaller white diamonds.
The news comes just weeks after Merlin dug up a blue diamond, one of the rarest coloured diamonds, believed to be the first at the project.
However, the company said the Merlin diamond is known for its high quality, large super white diamonds and the recoveries of the diamonds just announced continues to ‘demonstrate the potential for large diamonds’.
The Merlin project is also where Australia’s largest ever diamond, a 104.73 carat stone, was discovered.
