20 Jun JA Solar provides 11MW of PV modules for Egypt power project
JA Solar (NASDAQ:JASO) announced it has generated 11MW of high-efficiency PV modules for a PV-diesel hybrid project in the Red Sea region of Egypt.
The project, developed by Masdar and funded by the Abu Dhabi government is made up of the largest hybrid projects in North Africa.
It is also comprised of four separate power plants – Marsa Alam, Shalateen, Abu Ramad and Halayreb.
The project is designed to generate consistent electricity for the tourism industry in the Red Sea area.
The four plants have a combined capacity of 14MW and will lead to significant savings of expensive diesel oil.
“Because the project is located in the desert and will experience extreme climatic conditions, it has stringent requirements for highly reliable modules,” said Jian Xie, president of JA Solar. “Our winning bid demonstrates the high quality and reliability of our modules and the broad international recognition of our products.”
The project is expected to provide enough electricity for 25,800 households and displace 42,700 tonnes of CO2 yearly.
