21 Sep Siemens Gamesa to supply turbines to Argentine wind complex
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has secured a supply order for the installation of its turbines to a wind complex in Argentina, further strengthening its position as a leader in the Latin American renewable energy sector.
Siemens will install 28 of its G132-3.465 MW wind turbines at the Arauco wind complex in La Rioja, Western Argentina, in a milestone deal for the company which represents the first order for this particular turbine in South America.
The renewable energy firm is already executing Phases I and II of the Arauco complex, and will soon progress to Phases III and IV.
The turbines are slated for delivery in Q2 of 2018, with the facility commissioned for between Q4 of 2018 and Q1 of 2019.
“Execution of this order marks an important milestone for Siemens Gamesa, as it reinforces its position in a market that presents tremendous upside in wind power,” said José Antonio Miranda, Siemens’ CEO for Latin America.
The project will contribute to the targets laid out by the Argentinian government under the RenovAr 1.5 project. The country aims to achieve 8% of its electricity demand from renewable sources in 2017 and 20% by 2025.
