23 Jan Trump announces America first energy plan
Following his inauguration last week, US President Donald Trump has announced plans to shake up America’s energy industry.
In a statement on his website, Trump declared his energy vision for the United States, which involves reviving the national coal industry, while developing oil and gas markets.
Trump vowed to: “Make America energy independent, create millions of new jobs, and protect clean air and clean water.”
The statement also spoke of ‘freeing $50 trillion in untapped shale, oil, and natural gas reserves, along with hundreds of years of clean coal reserves’.
The Trump administration will also scrap two environmental policies of the previous Obama government, including the carbon pollution-cutting Climate Action Plan.
The other policy set to be removed is the Waters of the U.S. rule, which was passed to protect national waterways including lakes, rivers and streams.
President Trump’s statement did say it would continue to protect national waterways: “We will conserve our natural habitats, reserves and resources. We will unleash an energy revolution that will bring vast new wealth to our country.”
