26 Oct Bangladesh and Nepal to build 1,600MW hydropower projects
The governments of Bangladesh and Nepal will partner to build two pumped-storage hydropower plants with a total capacity of more than 1,600MW in Nepal.
The two countries signed an agreement to build the 1,110MW Sunkoshi II and 536MW Sunkoshi III plants both on the Sunkoshi River in central Nepal.
The partnership will develop the projects under the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal (BBIN) initiative the four members signed to facilitate regional trade and business.
The interest for Bangladesh in the deal is that electricity will be exported to the country via India through the BBIN economic corridor.
