01 Sep NLC India Limited starts construction of 65MW solar project
India’s lignite mining and power generation company NLC India Limited has announced the start of construction activities at its third solar power plant in Neyveli.
The 65MW plant will be constructed on an area of 325 acres and will receive an investment of US$52 million. It’s anticipated to be commissioned the first week in June 2017.
The project consists of 238,000 solar photovoltaic modules with a power generating capacity of between 280-310 watts each.
Electricity produced from the project will be supplied into Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco).
The engineering, procurement and construction has been managed by Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL).
The project’s construction is part of India’s progressive plan to establish 4,000MW of solar capacity in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka Kerala, Telangana and Rajasthan.
These projects would be established under the National Solar Mission initiative announced by the central government.
NLC India has been increasing its renewable energy portfolio since the commissioning of its first 10MW solar project last September. Construction for its second solar plant started in July this year.
