17 Mar Sodexo awarded $2.5 billion contract with Rio Tinto
Sodexo (EPA:SW) announced yesterday it has been awarded a 10-year, AU$25 billion contract with Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) to provide facilities management services for their Pilbara operations.
This is the Sodexo’s largest contract of its kind. The contract involves project management and integration, buildings and ground maintenance, accommodation and catering services, transport services, cleaning services, and property management.
In a company statement, Michael Landel, CEO of Sodexo said this is a major step for the company.
“It demonstrates the value our unique global footprint and deep secretarial knowledge brings to clients like Rio Tinto, to enhance quality of life for teams operating in challenging environments,” he noted.
“Mobilizing an international team of nearly 100 industry experts, we designed a solution for Rio Tinto that reflects the commitments of both companies to improved performance, responsible growth and development of the communities in which we operate.”
According to the statement, Sodexo was given the contract after showing a number of strengths such as consistency and quality in services, improving quality in village life and strong engagement with communities with based within their operational footprint.
